Avoid rental scams

Keep payments and messages on Holuway, and know the signs of a listing or message that is not what it seems.

Pay through Holuway

When a landlord or host takes payments on Holuway, payments are processed by Stripe, and Holuway never sees your card or bank details. Every fee is shown before you pay.

Be careful if someone asks you to pay another way, such as by wire transfer, gift cards or a payment app, before you have seen the home or signed a lease.

Signs to watch for

  • A price far below similar homes nearby.
  • Pressure to pay a deposit before a tour or before you have a lease.
  • Someone who cannot show you the home, or asks you to move the conversation off Holuway.
  • A message that asks for your password. Never share it; sign in only on the Holuway site.

If something feels wrong

Stop, do not send money, and report the listing. If you already paid someone outside Holuway, contact your bank straight away.
